How to Create a Live Coding (Interview) Session

The live coding feature allows candidates and interviewers to solve tests simultaneously online. Unlike take-home assignments, this allows for a qualitative assessment of the candidate's communication skills and thought process.

Please note that video calls and chat are also available within HireRoo's live coding feature.

Creation Steps

1. Access the Creation Screen

From the home screen, click the "+" button at the bottom right, or click "Create Interview" from the "Interview List" page.

2. Enter Basic Information

On the interview creation screen, enter the following information and click "Next".

  • Interview Title
  • Candidate Name
  • Question to be asked
  • Google Calendar Settings (Optional)
  • Notes (Optional)
    • These notes are for internal sharing. This content will not be shared with the candidate.
  • Viewing Permissions (Optional)
    • Only members with permission can view the interview.
    • If not specified, all company members will be able to view it.
  • Tags (Optional)
    • Used for filtering on the interview list screen and for narrowing down the population for analysis on the report screen.

3. Select Questions

Select the questions to be asked. Question selection is optional.

A. When selecting and asking questions

Select questions from the list and create a list in the "Selected Questions" column.

  • Filter: Selecting "Live Coding" as the question type will filter for live coding specific questions.
  • Select from History: Clicking "Select from History" allows you to load the same questions as a previously conducted interview.
  • Original Questions: In addition to official questions, your company's own original questions will also be displayed (please refer to a separate help page for how to create original questions).
  • Add: Questions can also be added while live coding is in progress.

B. When not selecting questions (blank editor)

It is possible to create an interview without selecting any questions. In this case, live coding will be conducted using a blank editor. During the interview, you can select "Coding format" or "System Design format" and ask questions freely, and the candidate will provide answers.

4. Confirmation and Completion

Confirm the entered content on the confirmation screen and click "Save" to create the interview.

After creation, copy the link from the displayed detail page and share it with the candidate via email or other means to conduct the interview.
